Wedding Madness

It's been a busy week here in Colombo. In the days leading up to my best friend's wedding on Friday, I helped to bake and decorate 500 cupcakes (I never want to see another cupcake again), got stuck with pins at numerous dress fit-ons and generally calmed the bride down whenever she got into a panic (which was often). I managed to get lipstick on my dress at my last fit-on (it never quite washed out) AND broke the zipper the day before the wedding. Needless to say, the bride was not impressed. Neither was her seamstress.

On the day, though, everything went off really well, and she looked beautiful. Here's a picture of us (aww...)
Don't be fooled by the other bridesmaids' smiles - they secretly want to murder the bride for forcing them into pink shiny floor-length dresses. I, on the other hand, am clearly in my element! =)

I'm happy to report that I gave my maid of honour's toast without shedding a single tear, contrary to EVERYONE'S expectations. I have to admit that I got a bit teary during the ceremony though, but managed to hide it - well, more or less!

On the downside, there was not a single hot groomsman in sight, a loss which we all felt quite severely (Yes, Roland, I'm superficial. Get over it). Luckily, the evening was saved by the timely arrival of a cute relative of the groom. He showed me how to use his fancy camera, I feigned absolute incompetence, and the result is that we've got a date for later this week (yay!). I'll let you all know how it goes ;) And for anyone who's wondering, no, he's NOT younger than me!

And then, because one party is never enough, last night was the bride and groom's homecoming (read: return-from-honeymoon party). I wore a sari for the first time in about 5 years (nearly tripped over my own hemline about a dozen times during the course of the evening). I love how glam we look in them though! =) they're sooo shiny...!

Also, apparently I'm not the only one who thinks saris are awesome - when two of my friends and I walked out to the hotel reception, we were accosted by a group of Asian tourists who insisted on having their pictures taken (one by one, mind you - it took ages!) with us in front of a giant christmas tree in the lobby. Sooooo funny!!

So that about wraps up my week's summary. Stay tuned for the (possibly less glitzy) next instalment.

xx
Steph
