I've moved out of Ormond to live with 2 of my close friends in Melbourne. Am currently rooted in Astorial Apartments (opposite KFC Grattan). Come visit me! =D
I used to diss Ormond's food ALL THE TIME. "They don't know how to cook Asian food! They make Singapore noodles taste like rubber bands!" etc etc.
I was bratty, pampered, too good for angmoh-nized (Western) food.
How I wish I were more humble.
I found it a chore to think of what to eat for 2 meals a day (wasn't a long list anyway, still an amateur). I found it a hassle to even walk to Woolsworth or Coles to get my supplies (and I always end up throwing out my supplies because I usually cook very very little - I'm an extremely small eater).
I was really really terrible at cooking at first. Back home, I nearly NEVER cooked. There were many 'fail moments' when I started cooking over here. Semi-raw chicken with the chance of me getting salmonella(???), rice that became porridge, what I thought was FRIED potatoes but turned out to be just potato in OIL (yeuuckkkkk…) because I didn't coat them in flour =.=
I was really whiny at first too. And at that moment, I wished I were back in Ormond, where I never had to worry about the existence of food (not taking into account TASTE)…
But soon after, I've decided to just suck it up and try harder! I can now make quite a few decent dishes…and my friends have actually approved of most of them! (I'd like to think they were genuine about it and not just being polite)
Oh oh! And I've also braved cleaning the toilet bowl! :O I think I'm quite a clean freak. I tend to clean my bathroom quite often now. :D
And I joined in my friend's family to make pineapple tarts in conjunction with Chinese New Year! Yummmzzzz…
Undomestic Goddess no more! =)
